Taiwan CDC has identified the summer season’s first indigenous case of dengue fever in a 21-year-old male who resides at An-Nan district in Tainan City. He fell ill with fever and joint pain on June 9, and was confirmed on June 24.
As of the 25th epidemiological week in 2007, Taiwan has had 366 reported dengue fever cases, of which 56 were laboratory confirmed. Among this year’s confirmed cases, 39 were classified as imported cases and 17 were indigenous cases (prior 16 cases were identified before March 1). The origins of the imported cases were as follows: 23 from Indonesia; 10 from Vietnam; three from Thailand; and one each from Singapore, Cambodia and Malaysia.
