Taiwan CDC has identified this year’s first case of Chikungunya fever on June 20. A 5-year-old boy who resides in Tao-Yuan County was detected with fever by heat-registering cameras at the international airport on June 20 after returning from a trip to Indonesia where he visited some relatives with his mother. The RT-PCR examination of his blood confirmed him as a Chikungunya fever positive case on June 25.
Taiwan has registered two Chikungunya fever cases in resent two years. Both of them were classified as imported cases. The prior one occurred in 2006 was imported from Singapore.
