- Give to drink plenty of tepid boiled water of syrup that has been added with petty amount of salt.
- The room must be sufficiently warm, where a radiator is furnished, a cup of water must be provided in match so that the room will not become overly dry which would otherwise stimulate the windpipe to cough even more.
- Don’t smoke.
- Input drugs as directed by the physician.
- Should the coughing persist, the baby may be put on a sated position, and the adult applies a stroke on the upper back straight down, over and over again, so as to ease the cough, and get the sputum out;
- In the event the cough is complicated with fever or short breathing, send for a doctor immediately.
- Don’t give to drink iced water.
- Steam inspiration;
- A reflective action, indicating that there is inflammation or secretion going on the epiderm of the guttural windpipe, and which must be removed.
- Babies will often come to vomit which is in fact a reaction to vehement coughing, there is no need to worry about that.
- The giving of water in whatever form must be made more than usual, so that the inflamed tract wall be maintained wet and moist.
- Chewing of candies prohibited.
- In case there is sputum resident in the windpipe, patting must be made at least 3 to 4 rounds a day (save where the sputum is present in the throat only).
- Where the production of sputum and the frequency of coughing is such that appetite or sleeping is thereby affected, suitable cough/sputum reducing agents (with dosage as per doctor’s direction) should be made part of the prescription.
