Foreword:
In the body, potassium ions are discharged mainly by the kidney, with chronical renal failure and uremia patients, however, owing to inability to effectively discharge the potassium ions, they may easily suffer from elevated potassium in the blood, and that might eventually induce arrhythmia which could be lethal since potassium ions came into the body chiefly by way of diet, it is therefore important for renal patients to keep alert to foods containing elevated potassium ions and refrain from exposing themselves to such foods in day-to-day living via gastro-enteral intake.

Notes:
- Where the required intake of protein and calorie in the diet is insufficient, the metabolic processing in the body will be expedited, and that resulting in an increase of potassium in the blood; so adequate intake of protein and calorie is to renal patients more important than careful screening of foods containing higher ingredients of potassium.
- Potassium will dissolve instantly in the water, so by scalding with hot water prior to cooking or discarding residual soup or water once the food is done on preparation, substantial elimination of potassium is accomplished, still, with popcorn, chestnut, and broad bean the potassium contents remains undiluted notwithstanding that they may have been cooked to done condition.
- Substitute salts sold in the market, such as low sodium salt or so-called health salt, comprised potassium instead, as such they are not recommended for patients suffering from deficiency of renal functions.
