While using a crutch:
- Keep your body balanced
- Crutch tips should be 4 inches (10 cm) from each foot.
- Never rest your weight on your underarms. This can damage nerves.
- Body weight should be on the hands
- Keep the elbow straight.
- If possible, bend the injured leg.
While walking:
- Bring the crutches forward 10 centimeters to make a triangle with you and your good leg.
- Swing your body forward parallel with the crutches.
While going up and down stairs:
- Step up with the good leg first while going up stairs.
- Step down with the crutches first while going down stairs.
