I. In the first 24 hours after being applied cast

1. Avoid excessive touching.
2. Use palms to move the cast.
3. Use a pillow to block up the cast to make the extremity higher than the heart for 48 hours.
4. Exercise regularly the other parts of the body and both ends of the extremity which is applied cast to stimulate circulation.

II. After 24 hours

1. Keep the cast dry
   Use a plastic bag to protect the cast while showering
   Never stuff anything in the cast
   Don’t sprinkle any powder in the cast
2. Using a crutch or other supports can enhance the comfort, security and capability of moving of the patient after leaving bed.

III. If any of the following cases happens, the patient should come back to emergency room immediately

1. While checking the circulation of fingers or toes, press the nail and observe the color after releasing it to check whether the color goes back to pink in 2-4 seconds. If the color is blue or pale, you should come back immediately.
2. Swell becomes worse and the symptom doesn’t improve after raising the cast and resting for a while.
3. The feeling of Sting or burn
   
4. The end of the extremity applied with cast is cold
5. When there is seepage, especially the liquid seeps out from the cast
6. A crack or damage on the cast
