Introduction to the History of Hospitals

The predecessor of this hospital was the Army Training Command Military Hospital.

  • May 1, 1948 – The Army Training Command established its affiliated units at No. 1 Xiaodong Road, Sanfenzi, Tainan City. This location was previously the site of the Japanese Army’s 4th Division Field Hospital.
  • October 1, 1950 – It was restructured as the “Army Officer School Military Hospital” under the Army Officer School.
  • May 1, 1952 – It was restructured and renamed the “Army Hospital”.
  • 1954 – It was expanded to become the “Joint Logistics Fourth General Hospital,” serving the Army, Navy, and Air Force.
  • August 1956 – It was restructured into the General Hospital.
  • 1986 – It was ordered to relocate to Hushan, Taoyuan City, which was formerly known as 827 Hospital.
  • May 17, 1987 – The Tainan branch was transferred to the 851st Field Hospital, and all personnel were relocated to the Taoyuan branch.
  • July 1, 1995 – It was restructured as the “National Military 804th General Hospital” under the Ministry of National Defense General Staff Headquarters.
  • February 1996 – An order was issued to relocate to the current site in Jiulong Village, Longtan District, Taoyuan City, where a new building was constructed.
  • July 1, 1998 – In accordance with the streamlining plan, it was mandated that the designation be changed to “National Military Taoyuan General Hospital” under the Ministry of National Defense General Staff Headquarters.
  • March 1, 2002 – Following the enactment of the National Defense Law and the Ministry of National Defense Organization Law, the hospital was reassigned to the Military Medical Bureau of the Ministry of National Defense.

Although the name and affiliation of the hospital have changed several times, and internal restructuring has occurred multiple times, the hospital has consistently upheld the values of seriousness, compassion, dedication, and perseverance. It adheres to the principles of “promoting health,” “protecting life,” “holistic medical care,” and “military-civilian unity,” serving as a guardian of health and life for both military personnel and civilians.

The hospital is committed to enhancing the overall safety of the medical environment and optimizing the quality of critical care, striving to become a model within the military medical system.
