Introduction

Stroke is the third leading cause of death in our country and the primary cause of disability among adults.
It not only results in significant life changes for individuals but also imposes considerable caregiving demands and economic burdens on families.
The primary risk factors for stroke include poorly controlled hypertension and atrial fibrillation.
Each stroke can exacerbate the level of disability and increase the risk of future vascular dementia.
Therefore, the treatment and prevention of stroke are urgent priorities that must be emphasized within today’s society and the medical community.

Our hospital established the Stroke Center on March 5, 2014, under the leadership of the Director of the Neurology Department.
This center integrates a multidisciplinary team for stroke care, which includes professionals from the Emergency Department, Neurosurgery, Rehabilitation, Radiology, Nursing, Nutrition, Social Work, and Home Care.
Concurrently, we have employed stroke case managers to monitor the quality indicators of stroke treatment (TCPI).
Since June 2014, we have actively participated in the acute post-stroke care program, providing patients with a continuum of care that encompasses acute stroke treatment, post-stroke rehabilitation, home health education, and outpatient follow-up.
We are dedicated to managing the care of stroke patients in the South Taoyuan and Hsinchu areas.

Center Mission

  • To effectively plan and establish a professional stroke medical team, integrating relevant departments within the hospital to provide comprehensive medical care.
This approach aims to reduce mortality and disability rates among patients experiencing acute strokes.
  • To develop effective business strategies for the stroke center by implementing educational initiatives, research projects, services, and training programs for medical personnel focused on stroke care.
  • To enhance the quality of administrative and medical services through strategic planning and promotion of both internal management and external support.
  • To enhance educational outreach by raising public awareness, as well as that of emergency personnel, about strokes.
Furthermore, improving the appropriate emergency response prior to hospital arrival is crucial.
  • To raise awareness of stroke prevention and treatment among families and the community, ultimately aiming to further reduce the incidence of strokes.

Important Milestones

  • October 2, 2016 – We participated in the “World Stroke Day – Weightless Love” educational event at the New Taipei City Government Square, where we received enthusiastic feedback.
  • January 5, 2017 – Achieved the significant milestone of treating the 100th patient with thrombolytic therapy.
  • May 2017 – We officially joined the Taiwan Stroke Association and established a branch with the aim of becoming a guardian for stroke patients in the South Taoyuan area. Our goal is to help them open their hearts and bravely step out into the world.
