Cardiology is a subspecialty of internal medicine. With advancements in medical technology, the diagnostic and treatment methods for heart diseases are continuously evolving. In particular, the refinement of cardiac catheterization techniques has enabled many conditions that previously required cardiac surgery to be treated through minimally invasive methods, significantly reducing patient risks and recovery times. Since the establishment of the cardiac catheterization lab in our hospital in 2001, we have been able to provide cardiac specialty services that meet the standards of a medical center.
The heart is situated in the chest cavity, slightly to the left of the center, functioning as a continuously operating pump. It is responsible for transporting blood from the veins into the right ventricle, where it is then oxygenated in the lungs and pumped through the left ventricle to deliver oxygen-rich, nutrient-filled blood to the entire body. Simultaneously, the heart requires its own blood supply to sustain its function, which is provided by the coronary arteries. These arteries are divided into three branches: the right coronary artery and the left coronary artery’s anterior descending and circumflex branches.
The services mentioned above highlight the significance of cardiology in diagnosing and treating cardiovascular diseases, consistently enhancing patients’ quality of life and health status through advanced technology.
