Colorectal surgery specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of conditions affecting the colon and rectum, particularly cancer, inflammatory bowel diseases (such as ulcerative colitis and Crohn’s disease), and anal disorders. The department employs advanced diagnostic and surgical techniques, including minimally invasive surgery and high-resolution endoscopic examinations, to enhance treatment outcomes and reduce patient recovery times.

Key Technologies

  1. Painless High-Resolution Colonoscopy: Our department utilizes the Japanese-made Olympus 290 series high-resolution wide-angle colonoscope, which is enhanced with Narrow Band Imaging (NBI) and Advanced Color Separation (ACS) image processing, to perform painless high-resolution colonoscopies. The use of a carbon dioxide insufflator significantly reduces postoperative abdominal discomfort. The examination is conducted through the anus, allowing for a comprehensive inspection of the rectum and sigmoid colon up to the cecum. This approach facilitates detailed observation of the bowel for polyps, early cancer lesions, or advanced cancer.
  2. Endoscopic Mucosal Resection: Endoscopic mucosal resection (EMR) is a minimally invasive procedure aimed at treating mucosal lesions in the gastrointestinal tract, including polyps and early-stage tumors. During the procedure, an endoscope is used to guide the excision of abnormal mucosal tissue for histological examination. This technique not only minimizes trauma but also promotes faster recovery and reduces the risk of complications.
  3. Minimally Invasive Colorectal Cancer Surgery: Traditional colorectal cancer surgery requires a large abdominal incision of over 10 centimeters. In contrast, our department is equipped with a 4K high-resolution laparoscopic imaging system and a variety of laparoscopic instruments, enabling us to perform surgery through small incisions. This minimally invasive approach not only reduces surgical pain but also promotes a faster recovery for patients.
