Introduction

Since February 1992, our hospital has established a “Psychological Counseling Room”, employing psychological analysts to provide counseling for psychological and social adaptation to military patients in our care. We also collaborate with relevant external organizations to address the adaptation challenges these patients face due to their illnesses. In 1995, with the implementation of National Health Insurance, our hospital introduced a “Social Work Room”, which merged with the “Psychological Counseling Room” to extend services to the general public, thereby enhancing our support for hospitalized patients.

In addition to addressing psychological and social adaptation issues, our focus has expanded to include social welfare consultation services, the referral and utilization of social resources, coordination of doctor-patient relationships, assistance with medical care and patient placement, and the transfer and placement of veterans, among other services. In March 1996, we established a volunteer service team and created a ward service group to provide volunteer assistance in the wards, ensuring that patients without support or those with mobility challenges receive timely non-medical aid. On May 1 of the same year, we launched “Yuan Garden” and the “Spiritual Counseling Room” in our hospital to offer spiritual comfort and support to hospitalized patients and their families who hold religious beliefs.

To provide more specialized services, in August 2001, following the directive of our hospital director, General Wang, we expanded the structure and scope of the “Social Work Room” and established a “Social Service Group”. In December 2005, it was renamed the “Social Service Room” to enhance the quality of our non-medical services and promote a holistic care environment for the body, mind, and spirit in collaboration with other professionals on the medical team.
